&lt;p&gt;De 10 a 21 de Julho, a Marinha portuguesa participou na 8ª edição do exercício &lt;a href=&quot;http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2006SPIE.6201E..42T&quot;&gt;«Recognized Environmental Picture» &lt;/a&gt;(REP17), na costa de Sesimbra e na península de Tróia, durante o qual foram testados veículos autónomos não tripulados, vulgarmente designados por &lt;em&gt;drones&lt;/em&gt;, submarinos, de superfície e aéreos.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Segundo a Marinha, os veículos autónomos estavam dotados de “diferentes sensores, características e modens acústicos”, tendo sido testadas as suas “potencialidades a partir de diferentes plataformas e áreas de operação”, como “as comunicações acústicas subaquáticas, comunicações submarinas entre submarinos e veículos autónomos, reconhecimento do fundo em áreas em que a capacidade humana não o permite ou represente risco acrescido para a operação de mergulhadores em caso de busca e salvamento”.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Os &lt;em&gt;drones&lt;/em&gt; foram utilizados a partir de navios da Marinha – “as lanchas rápidas Hidra e Cassiopeia e o submarino Arpão, com o apoio de mergulhadores da Marinha pertencentes ao Destacamento de Guerra de Minas”, referem fonte da Armada portuguesa.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;O REP “é um exercício conjunto da Marinha com a Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP) e em parceria com o NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE)”, explica a Marinha, acrescentando que constitui uma referência “na área da experimentação dos veículos autónomos” e uma oportunidade para demonstrar inovações nacionais e estrangeiras no domínio do “planeamento e controlo de operação de sistemas de veículos submarinos, de superfície e aéreos, através de redes de comunicação, subaquática, rádio e satélite, interoperáveis”.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Este ano, o exercício envolveu também “a Marinha Belga e observadores do Naval Undersea Warfare Center (EUA), do Norwegion University of Science and Technology, Universidade do Hawai e CMU Carnigie Mellon University (EUA)”, refere a Marinha.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;From January 18th to 20th, the Underwater Systems and Technology Laboratory from FEUP, OceanScan MST, and the Portuguese Navy (Mine Warfare Diving Unit nº3 and the Hydrographic Institute) performed several joint tests to evaluate the performance of LAUV vehicles on sidescan sonar and magnetometer&lt;strong&gt; &lt;/strong&gt;surveys.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;On the 18th and 20th, the operations took place in Tagus river (Mar da Palha) using a Mindelo class vessel and three LAUV vehicles equipped with sidescan sonar. It was possible to validate the coordinated use of three vehicles to survey an area almost the size of 30 soccer fields in little more than an hour.&lt;/p&gt;

The aim of this test was to validate the integration of a magnetometer in a LAUV and compare its efficiency with towed magnetometers. To do that, a metal barrel was sunk at known place and multiple surveys were undertook both by a RHIB with towed magnetometer and the LAUV vehicle (with onboard magnetometer).&lt;/p&gt;

Durante o encontro, o Laboratório de Sistemas e Tecnologia Subaquática (LSTS) da FEUP teve a oportunidade de dar a conhecer o trabalho desenvolvido na área dos veículos autónomos e de apresentar os resultados já alcançados ao nível do projeto Networked Ocean (NetOcean), financiado pelo EEA Grants.&lt;/p&gt;
