O LSTS, em colaboração com a Escola Secundária João Gonçalves Zarco, através da sua iniciativa Erasmus+, procedeu a uma apresentação do contexto geral do laboratório, dando exemplos das suas operações e dos vários projectos em que se encontra envolvido, tais como Fire-RS e EUMarine Robots.

Esta visita contou com alunos e professores vindos de vários países, nomeadamente Suécia, Noruega, República Checa e Dinamarca. Foi ainda feito um tour pelo LSTS, para que os visitantes pudessem entrar em contacto em primeira mão com os sistemas desenvolvidos pelo laboratório.

O principal objectivo desta visita consistiu na abertura de portas para uma ligação mais estreita entre as duas entidades, possibilitando a criação de diversas iniciativas curriculares que beneficiem tanto a Escola Secundária João Gonçalves Zarco, como a Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, através do LSTS

LSTS, in collaboration with the João Gonçalves Zarco Secondary School, through its Erasmus + initiative, presented the general context of the laboratory, giving examples of its operations and the various projects in which it is involved, such as Fire-RS and EUMarine Robots.

This visit had students and professors coming from several countries, namely Sweden, Norway, Czech Republic and Denmark. A tour of the LSTS was also made so that visitors could come into contact first hand with the systems developed by the laboratory.

The main objective of this visit was to open the doors to a closer connection between the two entities, allowing the creation of several curricular initiatives that benefit both the João Gonçalves Zarco Secondary School and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, through LSTS.

Contacto por parte da Lusa surgiu depois de uma apresentação feita, na Universidade de Vigo, pelo seu Reitor Dr. D. Salustiano Mato de la Iglesia, do projeto europeu de deteção e monitorização à distância de fogos florestais – Fire-RS.

Esta entrevista teve como principal objectivo esclarecer algumas dúvidas que a repórter Elsa Resende tinha em relação ao envolvimento da Universidade do Porto neste projecto.

Como tal, António Sérgio Ferreira, investigador no LSTS, fez uma contextualização do projeto Fire-RS e do problema que pretende resolver, usando a perícia conjunta do Laboratório de Sistemas e Tecnologia Subaquática (LSTS), do Laboratório de Análise e de Arquitetura de Sistemas (LAAS) do Centro Nacional de Investigação Científica de Toulouse e da Universidade de Vigo.

Lusa's contact came after a presentation made at the University of Vigo by its Rector, Dr. Salustiano Mato de la Iglesia, of the European project for remote sensing and monitoring of forest fires - Fire-RS.

This interview had as main objective to clarify some doubts that the reporter Elsa Resende had in relation to the involvement of University of Porto in this project.

As such, António Sérgio Ferreira, researcher at LSTS, made a contextualization of the Fire-RS project and the problem that it intends to solve, using the joint expertise of the Laboratory of Systems and Underwater Technology (LSTS), Laboratory of Analysis and Systems Architecture (LAAS) of the National Center for Scientific Research of Toulouse and the University of Vigo.

The EUMarine Robots Kick Off Meeting was successfully completed in Porto, Portugal on the 1st and 2nd of March, 2018. The meeting facilitated partner introductions and allowed a detailed examination of all project future activities and goals.

During the two day meeting, partners had the opportunity to discuss various topics, including project objectives, the governance structure, milestones, management processes and tools, project roadmap and partners responsibilities.

This meeting was a great chance to consolidate the consortium, project management key points and to map the road ahead!

O Instituto Hidrográfico, órgão da Marinha e Laboratório do Estado no âmbito das ciências e das técnicas do mar tem, mais uma vez, a honra e o prazer de anunciar a realização das Jornadas de Engenharia Hidrográfica.

As 5.as Jornadas de Engenharia Hidrográfica terão lugar nas instalações do Instituto Hidrográfico, em Lisboa, nos dias 19, 20 e 21 de junho de 2018.

Estas Jornadas, inseridas nas comemorações do Dia Mundial da Hidrografia (21 de junho), assumem-se como um espaço para a comunidade científica nacional discutir temáticas relacionadas com a engenharia hidrográfica e em áreas que com ela interagem.

Assim, os interessados na apresentação de comunicações devem submeter, até 12 de março de 2018, o resumo da proposta de comunicação, de acordo com as instruções disponíveis na página das Jornadas na Internet.

A aceitação das comunicações carece da apresentação do respetivo resumo alargado até 7 de maio de 2018.

2017 IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology Outstanding Paper Award for publication co-authored by LSTS collaborators

We are glad to announce that the paper “Integral Line-of-Sight Guidance and Control of Underactuated Marine Vehicles: Theory, Simulations, and Experiments”, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, Vol. 24, No. 5, pages 1623-1642, September 2016, authored by Walter Caharija, Kristin Pettersen, Marco Bibuli, Pedro Calado, Enrica Zereik, José Braga, Jan Tommy Gravdahl, Asgeir J. Sørensen, Milan Milovanovic ́, and Gabriele Bruzzone, was selected as the winner for the 2017 IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology Outstanding Paper Award.

José Braga and Pedro Calado are former LSTS collaborators and this paper was written while they were working with us.

The award ceremony took place at the 2017 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC) in Melbourne, Australia, last Wednesday evening, December 13, 2017.
