MonSense

From FEUP WSN Group

MonSense is the application that is currently being used at our laboratory to deploy, monitor and control Wireless Sensor Networks that serve different objectives.

The MonSense application is being developed iteratively. Any iteration matches a WSN deployment for one of the applications we are researching. The multiple aims of the system have lead to an increasingly modular and complete infrastructure that serves the objectives of a multitude of WSN applications and deployment phases.

The application can serve different objectives like Planning, Deploying, Monitoring and Controlling WSNs. We opted to differentiate these objectives in different modes of interaction, leveraging the ease of use for any of these specific phases. This allows a WSN researcher to use the application to plan and deploy a WSN, while the final customer can use it to monitor and control the network.

You can see old snapshots of MonSense in action here.

You can also try the application by downloading this windows installer and the motes software.
You need to use Deluge to program your motes (Telosb and TmoteSky compatible).

Future Work

  • Export data as SensorML (OpenGIS standard)
  • Publish the data as a KML server (Google Earth)
